The rule

The 5/25 band is not ours either. It is a long-standing piece of portfolio practice — most often attributed to Larry Swedroe — and it says to rebalance a holding when it is off its target by five percentage points of the portfolio or by a quarter of the target itself, whichever comes first. Kilter implements it and lets you change both numbers.
